PENDAHULUAN


Dalam menuju era globalisasi, penguasaan Bahasa Inggeris amat penting di kalangan masyarakat negara kita terutama sekali bagi warga sekolah khususnya. Selaras dengan dasar NKRA yang mana salah satu daripada teras utamanya adalah untuk memartabatkan Bahasa Melayu dan memperkukuhkan Bahasa Inggeris di sekolah. Pihak Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) juga memandang serius dalam meningkatkan kemahiran berbahasa Inggeris dikalangan guru dan murid-murid serta komuniti dengan mewujudkan ‘Highly Immersive Programme’ dimana beberapa sekolah dipilih untuk menjadi perintis program pembudayaan Bahasa Inggeris. Untuk membudayakan Bahasa Inggeris di peringkat sekolah, pendedahan terhadap Bahasa Inggeris ini amat penting dan harus dilaksanakan secara konsisten bermula daripada sekolah rendah lagi. Dalam usaha mewujudkan suasana berbahasa Inggeris, pembelajaran bukan sahaja boleh dilaksanakan secara formal di dalam kelas tetapi merangkumi aktiviti-aktiviti yang seronok dan menarik perhatian.


OBJEKTIF

·         Menanamkan minat di kalangan murid, guru dan komuniti terhadap Bahasa Inggeris.
·         Meningkatkan minat murid dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris di luar kelas formal.
·         Melaksanakan arahan KPM iaitu membudayakan Bahasa Inggeris di kalangan murid, guru serta komuniti sekolah.
·         Membudayakan Bahasa Inggeris di peringkat sekolah.

SKSR Junior Masterchef

1.      Pupils are divided into groups of 10
2.      Teachers prepared the recipes and ingredients and put it into boxes
3.      Each group will get 2 recipes – one of the recipe requires no cooking
4.      Pupils prepared the recipes accordingly.
5.      Suggestion of recipes – nasi goreng, potato/fruit salad, sandwiches
Recipes, cooking utensils, firewood, matches, cooking ingredients – bread, rice, mayonnaise etc.

Spelling Bee Competition

1.      Teachers prepared set of vocabulary
2.      The vocabulary were given ahead of time so that the pupils can memorized
3.      In groups, pupils will be sit on the stage and call upon to spell random words from the list
4.      Last 5 persons remaining will be eligible to go to the final round

Intergroup Action Song Contest

1.      Pupils will be given a song – or choose their own song
2.      They will be given 1 hour to practice for their performance
3.      Pupils perform their action song

Mini Family Day Telematch

1.      Pupils will bring their own food basket for their picnic
2.      Each group will be assigned to conduct a game / contest – balloon toss, fill in bottles with water, coconut bowling etc
3.      Each group will take turn to manage the game for other groups to play
4.      Alternatively – teachers conduct the all the games
Materials for the games – bottle, coconuts, sponges, pail etc.

Verbs Scrapbook

1.      Pupils are divided into groups
2.      Pupils find pictures of an action i.e. watching television, cut the pictures and paste it in their scrapbook
3.      They have to write the words in present and past tense form of the verbs and sample sentences for the verbs
4.      They have to collect at least 50 pictures for their scrapbook
Newspapers, magazines, scrapbook, marker pens, glue, scissors etc.

Scavenger Hunt  

1.      Pupils are divided into groups
2.      They will be given clues, and to solve the clues at each stations
3.      There will be one station keeper to make sure their tasks was fulfilled and will be handed their next clues
4.      The ‘treasure’ they seek will be at the final station

1.      Pupils will sit in groups and enjoy different types of game
2.      Games include board games such as scrabbles, word bingo, snake and ladder etc.

Poster Making Competition and plant a tree

1.      Pupils are divided into groups
2.      Pupils are to draw and make a nature theme poster
3.      Chosen 10 will display their poster and elaborate during judging
4.      Each group will plant a tree around the school compound in support of national plant a tree campaign
Small plant, hoe, watering can, poster making equipments etc.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS

1.      Lyric/Poem Writing Competition – theme: favourite teacher, school experience etc.
2.      Let’s Watch – watching English movies on education systems, natural disasters, superheroes etc.
3.      Chemplak Idol – English song singing competition
4.      Mural Painting – preferably murals with proverbs, phrasal verbs, idioms etc.
5.      Running Dictation – copy a story/message from point A to point B.
6.      Egg Evacuation – Making a parachute for an egg and let it off from higher building. The group with the egg intact/unbroken will be announced the winner.
